Overview
Colonel Marcus Stoddard is one of the most respected — and quietly feared — figures within the American Federation of Planets’ covert operations community. A 22-year veteran of Black Ops, Stoddard has led missions across every major sector of the galaxy, earning a reputation for precision, discipline, and an uncanny ability to see danger before it strikes.
His unit operates under deep classification, often beyond the awareness of standard AFP command structures. When intelligence surfaces suggesting that Kynan Whelan — one of Stoddard’s most trusted operatives — may still be alive inside Capital Alliance territory, Stoddard mobilizes a rescue effort with uncharacteristic urgency.
He assigns a Jack Crew, Kara Whelan, and Ben Taylor to the mission, believing that their unique combination of skills — and perspectives — may be the key to bringing Kynan home.
Personality & Traits
Strategic: Always thinking three moves ahead. Stoic: Rarely shows emotion, even under extreme pressure. Unyielding: Holds himself and others to uncompromising standards. Protective: Loyal to those who serve under him, especially his inner circle.
Distinguishing Features
A long scar runs from the inner corner of Stoddard’s left eye down the side of his face. The injury left the eye permanently blind. He refuses both a patch and a bionic replacement — a personal reminder of a mission early in his career where a single miscalculation cost lives. He carries the weight of that moment into every decision he makes.
Role in the Story
Stoddard is the architect of the mission that brings Ben and Kara together. His leadership, judgment, and hidden knowledge shape the trajectory of the operation — and the fate of the Federation itself. He is a man who has seen the galaxy at its worst. And he knows it may soon get worse still.
